So the surgery didn't technically take 7 hrs. We think it was actually just 2 or so. She was just in recovery for 7hrs. They are now watching and waiting while having her do therapy to make sure the pins will hold in her elbow. She hopefully will be returning in a week. We sure hope she's enjoying German hospital food. Mmmm sauerkraut soups and bruhwurst and leberkase (otherwise known as headcheese). Tasty!

Colleen has finished up the surgery. It took around 7 hrs. She is in recovery now. Everything was successful and now she can recover in the next few days and then return home.

Colleen will be having surgery this morning at 10am. They are hoping to be able to pin the elbow back together, but they may resort to using an implant. We will keep you posted.

Colleen is doing much better today. She is now off of IV meds and managing with pills. She is able to move her fingers on her left hand which is a great sign. She now has Internet access and is able to pass the time away reading and downloading books for her kindle. The doctors have her in a hard cast right now so that the bones stay in place and don't dislocate. It is likely that there is ligament damage considering she her a loud pop. The radius was splintered and most likely will need to be repaired with pins or an implant. Other than all those wonderful gems, she's resting fine.
1-2-10 CeeCee in her German hospital bed. Today seems to be a better day, at least enough to give a thumbs up. She'll be transferred on Monday to Wurzberg University hospital for surgery once the swelling goes down. The nurses are treating her very well. She is still in quite a bit of pain, but it's being managed through an IV. She is watching DVD's and Staci is looking to purchase her a wireless Internet card so she can get email and fill up her kindle. Staci and the girls are doing a wonderful job taking care of her and trying to communicate with the doctors and staff. There is a bit of hope since Germany does well with orthopedics. She will be expected to stay in the hospital for 7-10 days after surgery. If this changes or if there is any other information we will post it here. Pray for her and feel free to leave her messages on this blog so that she may see them when she has access to the Internet.
12-31-09 Sam's Grandma CeeCee has been visiting her daughter Staci and her grandchildren Ruby and Charly in Germany for Christmas. She had an unfortunate mishap while on the stairs and has dislocated & broken her elbow. Since she is in a German hospital we are worried about the care she will be receiving, but we know Staci and the girls will take good care of her. Sam has a little message for her so maybe this will make her feel better....that is if the socialized Government run hospital has WiFi. Feel better CeeCee!
