His real name is White-lined Sphinx Hummingbird Moth.
He was hanging out on Jordan's car, sunning himself with his wings open. Sam and I put him inside his bug catcher and watched him for a few minutes. We could feel the breeze coming off of his fluttering wings. He was an amazing little specimen to catch in our backyard. Not scary like spiders and not slimy and gross like snails and worms. Sam was amazed at how fast his little wings flapped. His tongue was so long and curly. He has been hanging out in the flame honeysuckle I think, but he was really enjoying my purple petunia at the moment. This was the only decent photograph I got, but we hope he'll show up again so we can take more pictures.
